Do you take your tea with cream and sugar?

My family lives all over the world—the United States, Canada, England, Pakistan, and Australia. Whenever we get to spend time together, we go big (and then go home). Last year, my 85-year-old grandmother embarked upon an around-the-world trip that took her from Pakistan to Detroit to London and back. She asked me to accompany her on the leg from Detroit to London, and of course I said, “yes.”

When I arrived in London, my cousin Ali and I spontaneously rented a car and traded the busy city streets for the quiet—and narrower—streets of the English countryside.

Accompanied by my Leica and a few rolls of Fujifilm 400h film, we traveled through England. This issue takes you on the journey that began in London and ended with us having cream tea in Devonshire, offering glimpses of Central London, Birmingham, Clovelly, and Hartland Quay.
